Rise and Fall

Standing on the edge
Pushed to the limit
But always looking ahead
To the rainbow’s end
Searching for that pot of gold

Kicked in the face
Knocked off balance
Fall to the ground
Get up off the ground
Pull yourself out of the hole

How can we keep on going
Time and time again
Where do we find the courage
To continue a lifetime trend
We give our all
But take a fall
Then get back on our feet —
We take a dive
But stay alive
How many times can we stand the heat?

Day after day
We go out in the world
Looking for something new
Something else to do
Instead we find the same

To reach the summit
And get pushed off
It sure must hurt sometimes
So why not run and hide?
Instead we play the game…
